Happy Wednesday, my friends!
These “4 the Fam” midweek emails a short, reflective, & actionable — structured to encourage you to press on to the end of the week in the leadership of your family.
1 Principle
As we look across the landscape of American culture, and society at large, I think we can all agree on one thing: our world shows clear signs of decay.
This isn't breaking news. It's a perennial problem.
When you look through the historical records — from the early chapters of Genesis to our modern-day history books — it seems the culture of our world has been disintegrating since the very beginning.
Is there something that is designed to hold together what’s falling apart before our very eyes season after season?
When we put the Bible's wisdom side-by-side with research into what preserves healthy communities, a clear remedy emerges.
The solution isn't complicated. It has two essential ingredients: 1) Good Leadership and 2) Healthy Families.
When it comes down to it, Good Family Leadership is the cure to cultural disintegration.
1 Practice
At your next family meal or meeting, clarify one standard that will mark your family to be different (salt and light) than what you see and experience in the world’s culture.
1 Prompt
Where in your family life are you currently letting the surrounding culture dictate your habits? (e.g. in your words or tone, your schedule, finances, technology use, media consumption, etc.)
“Ships are made to be in the water. But when water starts getting in the ship, we have a problem.”
1 Passage
“…choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served…or the gods of the Amorites…But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”” - Joshua 24:15
Turn this into a prayer for your family leadership this week:
Father — helps us model faithful obedience to you in our family and home. Give us the strength and unity to declare throughout all of our lives that we will serve the LORD. May our commitment be a foundation of strength against cultural decay. Amen.
